Madden 10 For iPhone

I picked up Madden 10 for the iPhone (and touch) earlier today and I have to say I am very impressed. At $7.99 this is a good value and will be a nice upgrade to old soccer game I purchased when apps for the iPhone first became available.

Secure Connection Failed

I have been seeing this for weeks connecting to Twitter using various iPhone apps.

Not sure if this is a Twitter or AT&T issue, but someone needs to fix it.

Thankfully I have been using Twitter less recently, but it is still annoying

Hanselman's Tool List V6

Everyone collects utilities, and most folks have a list of a few that they feel are indispensable.  Here's mine.  Each has a distinct purpose, and I probably touch each at least a few times a week.  For me, util means utilitarian and it means don't clutter my tray.  If it saves me time, and seamlessly integrates with my life, it's the bomb. Many/most are free some aren't. Those that aren't free are very likely worth your 30-day trial, and perhaps your money.

As usual, a great list. The most noticeable missing tool from my own toolbox is DropBox https://www.getdropbox.com/. Why anyone would mess with Mesh when DropBox is available is beyond me.

XMPP support on Google App Engine

XMPP (or Jabber as it is sometimes known) is an open standard for communicating in real-time (instant messaging). One of the most popular API requests in the App Engine issue tracker has been support for XMPP, so today we are excited to mark that issue closed with the release of our new XMPP API for both Python and Java SDKs!

In a word...nice. XMPP is something I personally believe will be growing rapidly in popularity over the next couple of years. Having it available on this scale is a nice addition to the Google App Engine stack.

How Procter & Gamble Got Employees to Use Social Networking at Work

P&G began with skunkworks projects undertaken by its IT innovation group and IT teams supporting R&D, marketing and other business functions. Once their use of wikis, blogs and similar tools solidified, P&G selected Telligent's online community application as an enterprise Web 2.0 platform.

The money quote, "This platform drove speed, transparency and a desire to engage with the change previously unseen at P&G".

It is hard to explain how exciting it is working on something you know is contributing to such fundamental changes to how people connect and work with each other. And of course kudos to the folks at P&G who were determined to implement this change.

Napkee

For those of you who love Balsmiq (who doesn't? http://simpable.com/software/balsamiq/), you will likely find Napkee (http://www.napkee.com) to be a nice addition to your tool belt.

Napkee is an Adobe AIR application that will export your Balsmiq mockups to Html/CSS/JavaScript (or Flex). Put another way, it allows you to add test some user interaction to your mockups with almost no work. At $49 this seems like a steal.

HighlightCam

HighlightCam is a webcam video service that finds the interesting parts of your videos. Our service makes it easy to find where your cat did a backflip or a burglar entered your house – and in one click you can jump to that point in the original video, to see and hear it all.

Three things I like here:

1. It is a really interesting and useful service.
2. They let you demo the service for FREE with no need to create an account directly in your browser.
3. There is an API.

The real question....Will they be able to convert this into a sustainable business? Or put another way, would you pay to use this?

Feedburner Support on Posterous

We made it really easy to use Feedburner to get analytics about who's reading your feed. Just burn your Posterous RSS feed and add the new Feedburner feed address to your site and you're off.

Hopefully they add support for "MyBrand" in the future, but for now it is a good start.

All I need now is the ability to use Disqus and I will be set. :)

SSD Must Read

The SSD Relapse: Understanding and Choosing the Best SSD is the follow up to Anand Lal Shimpi’s original article The SSD Anthology: Understanding SSDs and New Drives from OCZ. Both will likely make your head hurt, but if you are thinking of making an SSD purchase they are both a  must read.

The big quote from SSD Relapse:

I don’t know how else to say this: it’s an order of magnitude faster than a hard drive. It’s the difference between a hang glider and the space shuttle; both will fly, it’s just that one takes you to space. And I don’t care that you can buy a super fast or high flying hang glider either.

I have been patiently waiting to pull the trigger on this purchase and I am pretty sure I will be picking up one of the Intel X-25 160 GB G2 drives…as soon as I can find one in stock with a decent price.

Android, Palm Pre, and other forward-thinking devices.

It has been a while since I found a new site with a really good web UI.
